‘I Have Never Opposed Electronic Transmission of Results’ – Kalu Dismisses Old Video, Slams ‘Desperate Political Actors’
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North) has fired back at what he describes as a “mischievous” recycling of a five-year-old Senate footage, insisting he remains a firm supporter of electronic transmission of election results in the 10th Assembly.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, the former Abia governor and former Chief Whip of the 9th Senate clarified that the resurfaced clip showing lawmakers in face masks dates back to the COVID-19 era of the 9th Senate, not from this week’s plenary as falsely peddled.
“That submission was made within the context and realities of that time,” Kalu said. “At no point in the 10th Senate whether during public hearings, plenary deliberations, or executive sessions have I opposed the electronic transmission of election results.”
Kalu further disclosed that he is aligned with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and colleagues across party lines in backing the digital transmission of results as enshrined in Section 60(3) of the Electoral Act.
The senator did not hold back in his rebuke of those circulating the old footage, branding them “serial election losers and desperate political actors” attempting to mislead Nigerians for cheap political relevance.
“I trust that Nigerians are discerning enough not to be swayed by recycled falsehoods,” he added, urging the public to remain intellectually vigilant.
This comes amid growing national debate over electoral integrity and technology deployment ahead of the next election cycle in 2027
