Yuletide: Police advocacy group carries out nationwide campaign on `Secure-and-Safe-Journeys’

The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), a police advocacy group, says it has developed a module to carry out a nationwide campaign on `Secured-and-Safe-Journeys’ this yuletide.

The National Coordinator POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amarizu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday that the nationwide month-long campaign would run from Dec. 10 2021 to Jan. 9, 2022.

Amarizu said that the campaign was part of modalities towards enhancing security and safety of drivers and passengers in line with the actualisation of the safety and security framework of the Police during the yuletide.

He explained that the module for the campaign, with the slogan: ‘Park-2-Park Security and Safety Campaign’, would be carried on a multi-stakeholders and multi-agency collaboration basis.

According to him, this nationwide campaign became necessary to equip citizens with basic information and tips which will serve as guide as they embark on their journey.

Amaraizu said that POCACOV had developed stickers, posters, jingle and sensitised broad spectrum of its ambassadors who are Nollywood actors/actress, comedians, artiste and master of ceremonies etc ahead of commencement of the campaign.

“It is all about awareness creation/sensitization, advocacy and reorientation of passengers and drivers.

“It will also cut across campaign against substance and drug abuse by some drivers as a means of remaining alert to their driving activity and which can pose danger.

“It is all about drive to be secured and safe. We are reawakening their security and safety consciousness through this community driven activity as security and safety is everybody’s responsibility.

“Passengers also needed to be security conscious in order not to play into the waiting hands of would be mischief makers that may put up as motorists.

“This is why sensitising them on the need to board their vehicles from government approved points/parks for ease of reference remains important,” he added.

NAN recalls that POCACOV is a Nigeria Police Community-policing Initiative working with different stakeholders and multi-agencies, and galvanizing their support for partnership and participations for solving community/societal challenges. (NAN)
